“I remember doing the Sound Case...
I love reading now!"
– 3rd grader,
Graduate of The Sound Case, Wichita, KS
“I was pleasantly surprised at the comprehensive yet simple approach of the curriculum.... it is easy to follow, and even provides verbal prompts.
My students and I both enjoy the hands-on tactile tools which are easy to clean, durable, and aid in keeping my students’ attention focused on the lesson.
I began part of a lesson by saying, “And now our favorite part.”
My student said, “My favorite part is the reading.”
“Do you mean when I read to you?” I asked.
“No,” he said. “I mean when I read to you.”

“I am a recent graduate of the Paraeducator Program at WSU Tech. Last semester, I had the opportunity to work closely with four kindergarten students using the Sound Case, and I really enjoyed every minute of it. Over the course of the term, I saw a huge improvement in their understanding of letter sounds, and watched their confidence grow.
One of my favorite parts of the Sound Case was interacting with the students as I read books that matched the letter sounds I was teaching. The letter-to-sound deck cards were also a big hit. It was great to see how quickly the kids picked up the sounds using these resources.
The students especially looked forward to using the handwriting boards and were excited they were able to practice what they’d learned in a hands-on way.
I’m proud to say that they are now finishing the school year knowing their letter sounds and feeling confident enough to show others in their class how much they’ve learned.
This was a valuable and enjoyable experience that made a real difference, and I’m so glad I got to be part of their learning journey.”
