“I remember doing the Sound Case...
I love reading now!"
– 3rd grader,
Graduate of The Sound Case, Wichita, KS
“I am a junior in college working towards my teaching degree and I just finished up my time at WSU Tech in their Paraeducator Program. I am also a long-term substitute teacher in a self-contained elementary classroom, and I plan to continue teaching in that classroom after receiving my degree and license. Last semester, I had the opportunity to work closely with four kindergarten students using the Sound Case, and I really enjoyed every minute of it. Over the course of the term, I saw a huge improvement in their understanding of letter sounds, and it was such a rewarding experience to see their confidence grow. One of my favorite parts of the Sound Case was reading new books that matched each letter sound. It gave me the chance to interact with the students in a fun and engaging way, and they really loved the stories. The letter-to-sound deck cards were also a big hit. It was great to see how quickly the kids picked up the sounds using these resources.
The students especially looked forward to using the handwriting boards. They were always asking when they’d get to write the new letters they’d learned, and it was clear how excited they were to practice what they’d learned in a hands-on way. When we started, all four students already knew their letters in order, but by the end of the semester, they had developed a strong understanding of the sounds those letters made. I’m proud to say that they are now finishing the school year knowing their letter sounds and feeling confident enough to show others in their class how much they’ve learned.
This was a valuable and enjoyable experience that made a real difference, and I’m so glad I got to be part of their learning journey.”
